Project Description:

The South-East Outfall Collector is considered as one of the main works expected in the Masterplan of Palermo Sewerage Network. The project aims at the strengthening of the city sewerage system and the sea depollution.

The works subject of this assignment are related to the construction of an underground  urban sewerage system for the wastewater collection with a capacity service for 200.000 population equivalent.

The project includes:

  • Pipe-laying works for a length of 4.8 km extending along a natural tunnel (Oreto Tunnel) running 15 m below the ground surface, with an internal diameter variable from 2,9 m to 5 m.
  • Excavation and construction of an artificial tunnel 1,5 km long 350 m of which constructed with cut and cover method.
  • Consolidation works with Jet Grouting Techniques.

The Project is compliant with the requirements of the Urban Waste Water Treatment  Directive 91/271/EEC and is governed by the national procurement rules of Italy.

The tunnel interferes with existing or under construction railway infrastructures, therefore it  was necessary to limit or reduce the disturbance deriving from excavation  operations.
